What do you think makes Austin a great place to live? The friendly people, the amazing food, the abundance of outdoor activities? We all have things that we love about this city of ours. We also all have things that we hate, like the traffic on 35 😒 or the constant noise and bustle of certain parts of the city. If you’ve been looking for an escape from the stress of Austin living, look no further. Here are the 5 best places in Austin to get some peace and quiet.
5 Best Places in Austin To Get Some Peace and Quiet
1. Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve
Mayfield Park’s 23 acres contain towering palm trees, a “picturesque cottage” that can be rented out, plenty of nature and hiking trails, water lily-covered ponds filled with koi fish, and “the beautiful peacocks for which the park is known.”
Mayfield Park once belonged to the Mayfield family. The 19th century cottage was their summer home and the peacocks that roam the park today are descendants of the ones they received as a Christmas gift back in 1935.
Mayfield Park is a great place to go for some peace and quiet. Karen Cannatti, President of the Friends of the Parks of Austin Board, says:
“You’ve got nature and trails. You have just beauty, quiet beauty. You have a historically significant bungalow-style cottage from the 1800s. You have the oldest extant gardens in this part of Austin. It’s all historically significant, and it’s peaceful…and a lot of people just come here for respite.”
She isn’t the only one who finds the park peaceful. One reviewer on the travel website TripAdvisor calls Mayfield Park “a quiet gem of a park.”
2. Casa De Luz
You might know Case De Luz as an organic vegan restaurant, but it’s a lot more than that. Casa De Luz Village is a wellness and community center that “supports holistic, mind, spirit, health and heart-centered events including classes, workshops, meetings, one-on-one sessions, seminars, consulting, and coaching.”
At Casa De Luz, you can have a peaceful lunch or take a yoga or meditation class – but you can also simply walk in solitude along the stone paths, enjoying the lush greenery and getting lost in the serene surroundings.

3. Zilker Botanical Garden
Zilker Botanical Garden includes multiple themed gardens, including the Taniguchi Japanese Garden, The Riparian Streambed, The Hartman Prehistoric Garden, and The Mabel Davis Rose Garden. All these gardens and more are “woven together with pathways, streams, and Koi-filled ponds, creating an urban oasis full of shaded hideaways, sunny lawn areas, and thousands of native and cultivated plants.”
Visiting the gardens on the weekend or on a holiday will probably mean you’ll see more crowds, but if you go during the lower-traffic hours, Zilker Botanical Garden can be a charming respite from the busy pace of city life.

4. Austin Public Library
One place you’re sure to find peace and quiet is one of our local libraries. We recommend the Central Library location downtown. While the main location can get crowded, it stays pretty quiet. There are also tons of things to do at the central location, including grabbing a meal, cup of coffee or a literary-themed cocktail from the library’s on-site café, The Cookbook Bar and Café.
5. Medici Roasting at Springdale General
Medici Roasting has several locations around Austin, but according to Michelle, the author behind the blog “A Girl from Texas,” the Springdale location is a little more tranquil than the others. She describes the location as “quieter,” with “mostly people studying.” In her blog post on the best coffee shops in Austin for studying and working, she also says that there are plenty of seats and outlets at the Springdale Medici, making it an ideal place to get a little peace and quiet, whether you want to get some work done or cozy up with a good book.
