We cannot ignore the impact that the last two years have had on us, but we are starting to regain a sense that everything is going to be okay. Yes!
We can step out and leave our homes. We can hug a friend (masked or not). We can enjoy and feel a new energy in taking care of our physical and mental health. We are learning to never take the little things in life for granted again!
We stand in the mantra that this year, and any new year in our future, life is meant to be fully lived.
“Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.” – Søren Kierkegaard
Living in the Moment – Not in Our Problems
Human beings are natural thinkers and problem solvers. We not only seek the truth, but we ponder deep to solve dilemmas and find purpose in everything we do.
While it is good to improve what we can change, we cannot always fix what is right in front of us (like a pandemic). We need to give ourselves a large dose of grace in that respect! This helps to promote a healthy zest for life itself!
As we jump back into life this year, there are ways to keep the positive ball rolling – despite any problems we might encounter. Here are some simple exercises and ways to keep the mantra for experiencing life going:
Breathe
Stress and anxiety can sneak up on us. Awareness is our shield! If you feel stressed, take a break and just breathe. Do nothing else. Pause and just be. Try it right now. Do you feel it? Yes, to the sense of peace!
Enjoy the Little Things
Imagine experiencing life through the eyes of a child. What do you see? What do you feel? What do you smell? What do you taste? What do you hear? Practice this several times a day – make it a habit to notice the smallest of things in life.
Human Touch
How does it feel to hug a friend or a loved one (or a stranger!)? Human touch is healing. Be safe – but do not avoid it! Human touch is proven to reduce anxiety, uplift mental health, and improve physical health as it lowers blood pressure, improves circulation, reduces pain, and protects us from illness.
Mental Health Days
Take a mental health day and focus only on what you can control – and don’t forget to include what you love. Spend a day (or several days!) away from the pull of your busy routine. Take a break from what stresses you (i.e., a staycation for personal wellness). A mental health day is YOUR day, claim it!
Reflective Hour
Schedule in regular pondering time. What can you change in life? Give yourself no more than an hour, several times a week, to reflect on what troubles you.
Put it in writing – what steps can you take for improvement? What is not in your control? Be honest and make a list. Then, set an actionable goal to do what you can do – even if that means that you do nothing. After you have this on paper, release your thoughts – let it go! No pondering allowed!
Gratitude Journal
Gratitude journals are rewarding because they help us to remember to be grateful for the little things in life. Write your journal in the evening to promote positive sleep, or write it first thing in the morning to get your day started on an optimistic note. If you are a writer, write a few paragraphs that include three things (or more) that you are grateful for…and if you dislike writing, you can simply pare it down to a short list. The important piece of this is to deliberately acknowledge what you are grateful for every day of your life.
Self-Care
Self-care is a super-important piece in protecting our physical and mental health. As we enter the new year, and especially after experiencing several years of pandemic, it is more important than ever to pay attention to what our minds and bodies are telling us.
We focus on self-care here at Sage Blossom because we know how important it is in our lives as a whole to manage stress and improve our quality of life. Have you tapped into our library of Self-Care articles?
Our Role in Experiencing Life
There is a way to take charge of the daily stress and to experience a mentally and physically healthier life. There is no better time than now.
Bodywork is powerful, and touch, relationship, connection, energy, and love have never been more important. Being a conduit for that power is such a gift to us.
One way you can fully benefit from healing self-care in your life this year is through a massage membership at one of our Sage Blossom Austin, Texas area locations.
We want to help you change and heal your body and mind. We want to be a part of your new mantra: To live your life not as a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced!
